Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya

The Sanctuary of Truth is a 105 meters high temple in North Pattaya. For 33 years, it is erected and carved entirely of wood. Its completion is scheduled for 2025.

It is the representation of a human civilization designed on the basis of different religions, beliefs and philosophies.

In 1981, born this crazy project that Viriyaphant Lek, a Thai businessman, had dreamed! Build a temple of wood, where every square millimeter is etched, carved, chiseled.

The fact of using a material that can burn, rot, and that deteriorates over time ineluctably, is the perfect choice to represent human life, mortal, who perished with age.

The structure is completely made in wood. Then adds on each plot teak pieces, handcrafted one by one. Still under construction, wear a hard hat for safety. You can also visit the workshops to see the work of sculptors.

An architectural paradise, all religions, all beliefs and philosophies are united in one holy place, that the truth! This is the idea of harmony between Humans, a desired ideology of all!

It includes Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism … Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma and Buddha are represented everywhere. Whether one is outside or inside the sanctuary, we don’t know where to look so there are statues and frescoes.

Inside, there are several rooms, each with their meaning, since the origin of the world (the universe and earth) to the four seasons (symbol that is found with Khmers in Cambodia), via the cosmos and knowledge. The last room is the family, mother and father, each holder of intrinsic values for the society; protection, love and respect.

Outside, the statues are arranged on the edges of the roof. They seem to take flight. It is the representation of sky and earth, heaven and hell!

This is an incredible place. This gives thought to be in a sacred place which brings many symbols from glory to human life. It’s a bit like building the impossible! Yet they do, and wood in addition, to put an end to history. All is dust, everything has an end, everything is destroyed!

The sanctuary is open daily from from 8 am to 5pm. Admission is 500 baht.
